The Steal Wheels

In an attempt to reform Eddie Lipsky, a.k.a. Motor Ed, Drakken's mother places him under the care of his cousin - Dr. Drakken. Together the two plot to steal the technology powering Felix Renton's wheelchair. Meanwhile, Kim finds herself dealing with jealousy due to all the time Ron is spending with Felix in preparation for a Zombie Mayhem video-game convention.

Last month, the Mountain View resident was the victim of a brazen theft. In the middle of the night, a thief or thieves visited the apartment carport where his Nissan sedan was parked. But the thieves weren't interested in stealing his car or any valuables inside.

This time around, the thieves didn't target only him. The Mercedes sedan parked next to Gowda's car also had all its wheels taken. The thieves left that vehicle resting on some stones they apparently grabbed from nearby landscaping.

While Gowda filed reports with the police, it's the kind of crime that is understandably hard to pursue. Mountain View police officials couldn't immediately give specifics on how often wheels have been stolen off a vehicle, but the crime does pop up occasionally. The criminal motive is that tires and rims can be resold for cash relatively quickly either as scrap or as collectibles.

"Tires can be expensive, especially if they have high-end rims," said police spokeswoman Katie Nelson. "Cars with more expensive tires, rims and wheels could be potentially bigger targets than your typical wheel that you see on a sedan."

The theft of car wheels is an old crime, but various news reports indicate that it could be having a resurgence in some areas of the U.S. Online marketplaces to hawk auto parts have made the crime more lucrative, according to media reports. Across the county, car insurance companies have been encouraging legislation that would prohibit dealers from buying used tires for cash.

Heat is also produced when the tires wear out the road and the roads wear out the tires. Heat is a form of energy, and all that heat in you tires is wasted energy for which every car and truck driver pays dearly. Even on a cold winter day surrounded by frigid air which is continually extracting the waste heat, tires still get hot to the touch. Steel wheels and steel rails bend imperceptibly and wear very little compared with the plainly visible bending of tires on pavement.

The energy used to drive a train is primarily devoted to torque, turning the wheels. There is far less loss to friction and heat compared with truck and car tires. Rail infrastructure can withstand heavier loads. (Even where legal weight limits are followed, it would take thousands of cars to equal the damage to highway infrastructure of a single truck [cite].) Electrify the train and even greater efficiencies in locomotion are obtained. And regenerative braking sends electricity across the wires to power another train up a grade rather than wasting the energy as heat as when a car or truck brakes.

Now it also intervened in another strange situation. Someone was removing the nuts off the wheels of a Tesla vehicle parked in a parking lot near the Bergen airport in Norway when he appears to notice that he triggered the Sentry Mode and leaves:

Nelson and Mike found their rides rimless and teetering on brick pavers at the Advenir at San Tropez community near Pines Boulevard and University Drive after they fell victim to thieves stealing tires with the rims attached, Monday morning.

Choosing the right wheel for your vehicle is an extremely important decision that could affect you financially, both in gas mileage and the longevity of your wheels. When it comes down to it, there are two types of wheels to choose from: alloy wheels and steel wheels (or alloy rims and steel rims).

There are a large variety of alloy wheels to choose from as they are cast into many different designs. Alloy wheels have more customization options available and more advanced styling for finishes than their steel counterparts.

Alloy wheels are much lighter than steel wheels, which allows them to operate at a higher performance in most conditions. Fuel economy is a big advantage of alloy wheels, especially in the city. With the lighter frame of alloy wheels, it will put less strain on the suspension of your car. This will also allow for faster acceleration.

The main disadvantage of alloy wheels is their durability. When impacted by the road, alloy wheels tend to bend and even crack more easily than tougher steel wheels. The aesthetic appearance of alloy wheels is also threatened as they are more easily prone to cosmetic damage.

Alloy wheels today are the standard wheels used for most cars do to their high-performance and appealing look. While they are more expensive than steel wheels, the majority of OEM wheels on the market are alloy wheels.

For drivers looking for a cheaper more durable alternative, steel wheels are the way to go. Steel wheels are significantly stronger than alloy wheels making them the ideal choice for use in the Winter and for more powerful vehicles.

Unlike alloy wheels, durability is a major advantage when it comes to steel wheels. Cracking a steel wheel is nearly impossible and bending a steel wheel would require tremendous force. As long as you maintain the layer of paint on your wheel as needed, your steel wheels will not rust.

Another advantage of steel wheels is the price. If the need arises to replace your steel wheel, the cost will be inexpensive compared to an alloy replacement. There are fewer options offered compared to the selection provided by alloy wheels, but steel wheels in general do not have an aesthetically pleasing look regardless. However, wheel covers are available in several styles to improve the look of your vehicle if desired.

The extra weight of steel wheels is an advantage during the winter months. The extra friction will help keep your vehicle from slipping on the ice and snow. For this reason, and for the purposes of preserving their alloy wheels in the best condition possible, many owners will switch to steel wheels when the weather outside turns bad. However, the increased weight means higher gas mileage and decreased performance when compared to alloy wheels. 2ff7e9595c
